  • 4-23-15 Report

My buddy Eddie asked me to guide him and his friend from north Houston around for the day Thursday. His friend has a new boat and was anxious to test it out and put some fish in the new cooler. I was required only to provide the guide service, and for my measly effort, I was paid well with breakfast, lunch and beer. His buddy is a DEA agent (and a really nice guy) so I had to be on my best behavior.

We started out at dawn and wasted too much time in dirty water, so I moved us closer to the incoming tide and got them on fish at 9:00 AM north of Hanna and again around 11:00 near the channel. They were using crickets and I stuck with arties. The fish were eating the shrimp and turning their nose up at my artificials, so I struggled at first, but when we moved to the north shoreline, it was the opposite and I finally started scoring. We caught a few reds, but all agreed to release any reds.

They boxed the fish in the pic, I released mine.

Were they fishing the crickets with corks? Great box. You earned your pay!

They caught their fish on a rattlin' orange Loosiana popping cork in about 8 ft. of water. The trick seems to be-find the clear/dirty water line and fish with shrimp. While they were busy catching fish, I drank all the beer!

There are some good size trout in the group . Those most be the ones you caught . You did well captain ! Did you get the agents card to keep in your wallet ? Could come in handy in a tight spot .
