Well I know this isn't West bay but we still had a great time this past weekend. I stayed with a buddy of mine over in Port Bolivar and this was my first time fishing that area. We were watching the fishing report all last week about Rollover Pass and they were slamming the fish there all week, well until we showed up anyway.
Between the weather and wind is was pretty difficult to find a place to launch and fish from the kayaks. We ended up Saturday launching from Stingaree Marina and headed over to Yates Bayou, ended up with one keeper trout a few rat reds and broke off on a huge red. The reds were tailing good. Then were had to get back because of the weather and wind rolling in.
Sunday morning we decided to head back to the same launch and fish the marsh just south west of the marina and ended up doing pretty good with the incoming tide and out going out of the marsh. Ended up with 4 keeper trout a couple of throwbacks. Lost about 8 trout and 1 flounder at the kayak, seems they just didn't want to hang onto the hook long enough for me to get the net under them. Had one more break off, not sure if it was a good size red or big trout.
The bite shut off around 11 so we loaded up and headed back home. I had a great time catching and hooking up so all in all it was a great weekend.
