  • Bass Action

Had a couple of fishing buddies fish Sabine marshes on Saturday with no luck, so Sunday a buddy and I decided to hit the fresh water instead. We knew these bass should be spawning soon. As we began to fish we both started catching fish on your typical senko. We finally hit the shallows and smoked on couple on top working that worm as a fluke or a stick. I ended up catching about 12 throughout the day but did manage to pick up a 4 lb male (If only it was a female!!!) Great day for bass but now I am ready to hit the flats for some reds!

Awesome catching them like that!! Give them a week and go back to the same spot with plastic lizards and the big females will pound them. BTW I have a tournament on the Sabine in May and never fished it so I'll be heading over there a few times over the next month or so. If you want to go out with me let me know as it is always good to go to a new spot with some one more familiar with the area.

It is fun! and Sabine River bass tournament? I don't fish the river, but do know a spot that is on the Louisiana side that is very easy and quick to get to, but im sure many people know it well. Give me a little more details and ill ask around or give you any advice or tips I can for pre fishing purposes.

Thanks that would be great!! I'm still waiting on them to determine where we will be launching from for the start of the tournament. If you have any suggestions on a good ramp locations that can handle up to 15 boats that would also help. The tournament is on May 16th and as soon as I find out where we launch then I'll start making some plans.

Bountyhunter is right. Fish with a lizard. Make sure you hold on tight, because they mean business when they hit it. That happened to me. Lord bless.

I was planning on going to lake Somerville this coming weekend since conditions for saltwater fishing haven't improved. Hearing your story, I will hit up some shallow drop offs that have worked for me before to get some really good sized stripper bass. Thanks you for sharing, tight lines.

Oh yeah no doubt that lizards are the way to go but they just weren't quite there yet! Very soon though but yes, these bass are about ready to go off so I would stick to shallow. Bountyhunter, the bassmaster series is opening this weekend on the Sabine and so far from what I have seen, heard, and read is most people go to Louisiana and fish the backwater up against the stumps and garss and freshwater marshes. Though its March now, and youre coming in May but ill continue to keep my ears open.
