  • Great Weekend but The Skunk showed up

Well we showed up Thursday for a weekend of fishing and stayed at Jamaica Beach again. Weather of course was gloomy but we were excited just to be back. Went out Friday morning after the rain had moved out to try and pick up a few fish, well that didn't happen. We started at Shell Reef and didn't get a bump.

Moved around a little with still no luck, the boys took the kayaks out with still no action. Friday night we started trying to hit some green light at the mouth of Jamaica out on the bay and got a few hits but no hook ups.

We were hoping Saturday morning would be better, we scoped out a place to drop kayaks into Carancahua Cove from the road in Jamaica and launched right a daylight. Thought it was gonna be promising when a saw some wakes and a few tailing reds. Made some cast at them but by the time I could get my jig in front of them it was covered in weeds. Seems like we fought that issues the whole time. There was a lot of bait moving around in there though.

I figured I would try to get those boys something to pull on their lines so we went out to just make a couple of drifts just to see if they could hook up on something but once again no luck. Still fought the weeds.

When I was down in October we didn't seem to fight that issue with the weeds, kinda curious if that is just normal this time of year?

Still had a great weekend with family and friends. Click image for larger version

The bite was tough all weekend... We fished all over the place and only managed a handful of dink trout. Not a single keeper.

Sounds like y'all had a great wkkend. Grass usually grows during the winter when the sunlight gets to the bottom amd usually dies out as the tides shut the sunlight out. All you do is work the jig/lure a little faster to keep it off the bottom above the grass or use top water.q

Glad I'm not the only one that had trouble finding fish this weekend. Is it still a Texas Slam if all 3 are undersized? We could have loaded the boat with stingrays.
