Maiden voyage to west bay today

Finally after months of reading this forum, I got to hit WB for the first time today. Started out at tiki and worked up the ICW to greens lake. Then worked the some of the reefs and harborwalk canals until 6pm. Not a tug, not a bite. Skunked. But I learned a lot on the landmarks and that I don't really know how to use my chart plotter at all. If you saw a guy in a skiff that looked like he had no idea what he was doing, sorry I got in your way. [emoji1]

Question for WB regulars. If you were out today, was that normal wind and chop?

Congratulations on your first West Bay outing ! I didn't go out today but I checked the hourly wind there . The strongest wind was SW 15 mph at 3 PM . The morning was pretty calm , variable winds less than 10 mph . Afternoon was 15 mph or less . Is that average ? Maybe average for a day you want to be fishing . Less than 10 mph would be nice .

Too bad about the skunk, we have all been there and it is never fun! If it was from the SW, then yes for this time of year. As the spring progresses and the temps pick up, the wind will gradually turn around to the South and southeast. Don't know about the mph, but seems to be more in the spring time. Keep a log of your trips and you will see a pattern over several years...

no worries on the skunk, mother galvestonbay is collecting her dues from you. Do not worry, she pays bigtime.
yesterday , the chop was light , i was able to comfortably cruize 35mph and anchor held everywhere all day.
It was rough around kemah ( clear lake channel ) as always , Tide started moving to change the direction of the boat
seemed about 1pm . Seemed inbound all day. we were skunked all day until about 2pm and that lasted for about 30
minutes. I can tell you that, for fishfinder , experience, you going to have to find something that shows up BIG like
a dreged channel or exact place, channel markers for example. I have a new setup and the accuracy can be way the heck off,
you would run aground at todds dump if you used the chart . Same with redfish reef. I use my chart mode with depth mode to make sure
im not running into shallow water.

It was a nice day for west bay, get use to the skunk. Fish are smarter here.

Don't feel bad about the skunk, I've fished west bay all of my life and I still get skunked a lot!
