  • Fishing Spots

I will be heading back down to Jamaica beach at the end of this month. I have a 4 and 5 year old that will be fishing with me. What are some good spots to fish from the shore? I usually surf fish in San Luis Pass but wanted to change it up a bit. Not looking for game fish, just something to let the kids have fun with. Live bait or lures. Both of my boys know how to cast and reel. Under the bridge looks promising. What is usually around this time of year? I know wade fishing can be dangerous around the pass so I'd rather not take them in the water. Thanks in advance!

Galveston state park is an option. Lots of places to fish from the shore in that area.

The rock groins off of Seawall could be good if the surf isn't too rough. Fish dead shrimp on the bottom. This time of year is good for that. Trash fish aren't in thick yet and there are plenty of drum, sheeps, and the occasional red to catch bottom fishing.

Also, I disagree about GISP being good bank fishing. You just have that ~50yd stretch on the W. side of Lake Como. The cut that runs to the W can be good but the remaining bank area to the S. is shallow for a while.

Plus unless you are there right at first light, you won't be the only one fishing that spot.

The Sea Isle pier could also be a good option.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I have fished the rock groins before but never when the surf was worth a crap. Didn't even think about GISP. That's always an option too. Good to know about the cut. Much appreciated.

with your kiddos... use live bait or dead bait, get those kids a pull of anything that will make them squeal and giggle. That's what its all about right there.

That's what I'm hoping for. I got them hooked on crappie fishing. Trying to move them along to the bigger fish.
