Is it a good idea to unplug fuel line and run till carbs are empty when done at the end of a trip? I have heard yes and also been told no. I currently do not burn the excess fuel out.

Depends on how long your rig will set up before the next use. Guys that use their boat 2 or 3 times a year would benefit from it but if you use it once a month or better I wouldn't bother with it. I add seafoam every few tanks and Stabil if I know it's gonna set up for more than a few months.Shut up and FISH!!

If its a 4 stroke it s different story. Guys at Sun Coast Marine Works in LaMarque say if you are going to let it set up for a couple months use a very small gas can with your fuel stabilizer such as star tron / stabil etc. then run that into your outboard. Good input on sea foam as well. Have your big fuel tank either completely full, or completely empty. if you keep it full, and it sets for a while then before running it the first time flush the fuel out of the lines until you get fuel thats been stored in the tank. Many times the fuel in the lines will have pulled contaminants from the lines over that longer period of time.
best to run you motor at least once a month even while in storage. just hook up to hose and let it idle a couple minutes.

best advise yet. I do it anyway (run gas out of small engines,,chain saws, generators, weed eaters, motors etc) but our supplier of gas tells me it really doesn't do much good, if any. that's why we pay more $$ and buy marine grade fuel...stabil et al work fine tooOriginally posted by TroutSupport View Post

Me too. Standard practice by my dad and uncles to run everything dry. Leaves less in there to sit and turn to varnish. I use my stuff often enough not to have to. Bought a four wheeler a couple months back that had set up for 18 months though and the carb was a brick. Took some doing to get it cleaned up and going.Originally posted by JT View Postim referring to the effects of running gas out in regards to the ethanol problem.Shut up and FISH!!
