  • Texas City Dike fishing questions

This weekend Windy cold and foggy, drove down to the end of the TCD to see what the ramps were like and what all the fuss about this location is. Seems pretty nice , I have never been but I bet that place is crowed from one end to the other in the warmer months. Seems that fishing and crabbing would be plentyfull nearly the entire length. I did note the current was howling against the north wind , making it hard for the diving ducks out there to get around.
I did not see any of the ships wakes hitting , but I know from experience that not all ships create dangererous wake . Drove down another streach of road on top of a levey and that looked promising , I would be inclined to fish
that area from a boat rather than wade out. I do read the posts here that leaving your unmonitored truck will lead
to disaster, I can see how easy that would be. Just the same, it would be interesting to read about the fishing techniques used out there, from using a boat to throwing a line off the shore and sitting in the car enjoying the view.

I recommend from a boat fishing the levy side. If the wind is right you can do some really nice drifts.

A couple of rules for the dike:
      1. Always envision how a wave can come in and trap your boat under the pier and wreck havoc on your engine, trolling motor, fiberglass, etc...... I have seen this......
      2. Never leave your boat unintended at the dock, even to just park your truck

You'll probably never encounter THAT WAVE, but you never know. The dike is very convenient.

That area was a premiere wading area several years back. It's hit or miss pretty much anymore. Best in June, July with an incoming tide and sse 10_15.
