Ok guys I'm back and in bed with beer. I'll try to write yall out a report but im completely exhausted so my squishy thinky thing isnt working so great.
First though I have to thanks you all so much, I dont really have the words to say how much it means to have such a great network of true sportsmen be so willing to help out and to such an extent. I really need to make the next meeting.
the story goes like this . I put in at the refuge boat ramp this morning , the wind was pushing the tide out hard and i had to walk a while just to be able to paddle.
it was all rough chocolate milk out there , literally 3 inches visibillity in a lot of places. water temp was warmer than the air but I also found out today that a 12 v deer feeder battery wont run a gps/side imaging unit for more than 10 minutes. when you guys find my rig the transducer arm is also broken because i tried to but a bend in it for proper angle. dont do that!
I grinded it out in about 3 ft of water and decided i needed something with plenty of vibration and sound so I went with a suspending gold superspot. worked really slow with short twitches and hops and kept getting short strikes but they were taking chrome off . couldnt get them to follow up on plastics. after 4 missed fish I connected and she ran at me and I could nt keep up, it turned right 5 yards in front of me then ran across me, turns out when youre knee deep in mud its hard as hell to turn with the fish so about the time I was looking like a twizzler as what would have been my new pb trout effortlessly stripped some drag then came to the surface and sent my lure right back to me.
after I made sure to yell and curse load enough to run off all the other fish in the area the tide started rushing back in so I got back to the yak.
I went towards frozen point along the shoreline to end the day with AN EASY WADE on harder bottom. the wind started to lay and there were some mullet running so I waded all the down past the point. nothin doin. walking back at dusk I kept thinking I should be seeing my yak by now. btw I jammed my stakeout stick about 3 ft into hard sand and tied it off to the bow handle to reduce dram and lower slap. as I walked past the old trap I started my wade at it all sunk in. I have absolutely no clue how it came undone and Ill be curious to see if its still with the boat, along with the curado i and an easy 1500 dollars worth of gear (shudder, cringe, beer)this was my first east bay trip and I wasnt all that sure how far it was back to the ramp and I was already dehydrated , I wasnt sure of the bottom on the way back either. I just kept wading because there was nothing else to do, well I will admit I saw a red at dusk and I made a few casts to it. i thought "If I die out here they might as well find me one strung!)
after Heather made some calls an officer called me and sounded like I was mostly a major inconvenience to him which I understand but because he assumed I was way further back towards the point he advised me to go to the old road that runs through the marsh. well walking through tall grass and muddy bogs with ray guards on sucks any number expletives you care to add here. I wore out, called him back as my low battery alarm came on and told him there was no road. I had to walk back to the water and to shorten this novel , I wound up walking back to the ramp and met him there.. I guess he didnt want the coast guard stealing his thunder.
my truck is still there at the ramp, maybe my costas too!!! Im still trying to wrap my head around all of this. if any of you guys find my rig in the morning I'll run back over there and meet you with all the thanks I can give. good thing I didmt lose my spare truck key too.

Talk about a rough day. Give everyone a description of your yak please, especially the color. I'm nowhere near there, but perhaps someone is. Might want to post this on other sites too for max exposure. From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

Glad you made it out ok. SBASS. We all have had some sort of trips like that and you just learn from it. Spare truck key? hmmm I learned something...Thanks and I hope you get all your stuff back. if not, just post up and we'll take care of you. All the best!

Glad you made it back safe. When you go out by yourself try to be prepared. Get you and extra key made and hide it somewhere on your truck. I always keep a hidden key on my truck for emergencies. Let your girlfriend know exactly where you are and what your plans are {float plan}. make sure your phone at full charge and keep it in a water proof case. And keep a fully charge flash light. And if possible study the area you plan on going to. The area you were at does have a road that runs along the shoreline pretty much all the way around. I think where you were the road is further back off the shoreline and more marsh in between the shoreline and road. Anyways glad you made it back. Hopefully some one will find your gear. Keep us posted.

I really hope it doesn't come to a community pitch in but thanks to everyone again for the offers to help. I won't be relying on stakeout sticks anymore even in shallow water.
I haven't heard from the coast guard yet either on the yak. It's a tarpon 140 in mango color so yellow and orange , it should have a curado I on a falcon lowrider in one holder, a humminbird 398 ci si on , milk crate with two tackle trays, a blue tackle back with lots of plastics and so on like that. I'm hoping that since my wallet and keys plus a life vest are in it no one would be dirty enough not to report it found.

Dang son , what a nightmare ! Consider an anchor and think about staying in the kayak . The kayak is all stealth in mud . The road is 40 feet from shore until it peels off inland at the last turn around/gate . Look at google earth. So you lost a good trout ?GEORGE A. BRANARD, COLOR SERGEANT, CO. Yeah I used to throw my anchor over when I got out to wade but over time I had become more confident in the stick. Ha, trust me I studied google earth plenty today, that road would have made things easier for a while but I still had I'm guessing close to two miles to go after that.
I'd think that trout would have been a solid 5 lbs.
