  • Looking for homeowners insurance + windstorm...no WPI8

Anyone here recommend an insurance agent/broker who handles homeowners that includes windstorm protection NOT through TWIA? Long story, by my 8 yr old home does not have a WPI8, and my current Farmers agent cant/wont write coverage for windstorm other than through TWIA.

I know there are agents/brokers who do this, but looking for recommendations on one. I've heard Vern insurance in Pearland does, but the few reviews I found online were not great.

    Thanks,
    GM

I didn't think anyone else could write it but TWIA if they are authorized to write insurance in Texas.

There are a few out there that apparently have access to underwriters other than TWIA willing to provide coverage. I've received flyers in the mail, for example Rick Tinkler in Pearland, as well as Vern Insurance also in Pearland....just hoping to find some referals vs. getting blind quotes.

        Why not get a WPI-8 engineer's inspection?

I looked into that, and apparently it can run thousands of dollars since it is existing construction. They have to open up walls in order to see and inspect certain aspects of the construction, and the couple certified engineers charge to do the inspection, then you have ot hire contractors to repair sheetrock, etc.

If someone has leads on a certified inspector that has a different approach, I'd be interested in pursuing that as well. The original builder filed bankruptcy several years ago, and the engineer assigned to our build passed away.

Maybe think a little bit longer time frame. It'll be cheaper than any other solution. I doubt that you can even find an insurance company that will write a windstorm policy and if they did the premiums would be astronomical.
