  • Sylvan Beach questions

Driving around Jan 1 , went over to Sylvan Beach and found a very nice ramp with protection from the south wind, nice peir
and wondered what that area is like fishing wise. I mostly use kema/seabrook/clearlake and wish they has such a ramp.
I noticed they have a nice beach , looks like building sand but its nice, compared to pine-gully ect.
There is a huge parking area there and pavillion , guessing summer its crawling with people.
I was in a book store one day and that area has its own history book, once was the place to be , rental bathing suits and more.
Seems that all the little towns from la-porte to eagle point had a hay-day long past , and blown out by countles storms , fires
    and economical reasons.
So the question is , whats going on at Sylvan beach

      Google ( Linda's bait,sylvan beach,tx ).
Some good fishing off the pier certain times of the year at night. They might tell you a few things.
I've bought some bait there, but never fished that area.

Growing up... we would take a wash tub on the pier and fill it up with Blue Crabs.
Now that area has a Consumption Advisory on Blue Crabs

My Grandfather built a house on Bayshore Drive in 1905 and ran dining & dancing excursions from Houston to the original park pavilion on the inter-urban. I spent years of my early life along that beach and the park pier. We used to cast net washtubs full of shrimp off that pier. I should clarify; there have been several versions of the pier over the last 60 years. You should have seen that area after Carla!

I almost forgot about ( The Sunshine Kids )
That is the location they use for their Annual Fishing Tournament every May.
They have a big turnout every year and are always looking for volunteers and Boat Captains to help out.

Actually good fishing around there. I consider it my home water since I am 10 minutes away. I hit the Trinity Bay side of Atkinson Island and New Island during warm weather and slide into the back bays in the cold. Just watch out for the sneaky big wake created by the all the large commercial boat traffic. Always drift, if you anchor up or try to wade that wake can be dangerous.

Fish to the left of the pier. On the right is an old pier and you will snag your line every time. I've seen some nice fish come out of there.
