  • Redfish Filet Knife

A friend has been begging me to keep a few redfish for him, so the other day I kept three and brought them home to clean. After dulling my trout filet knife on the first one, I discovered the perfect electric filet knife for redfish. Here's a pic...............Seriously, I am in the market for a good electric knife sharpener that works well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.....any suggestions? Academy has several, but I have no idea which one to buy. Thanks for any advice.Click image for larger version

I have started using a large forked bread knife for Redfish on the half shells. Works pretty well.

Try at the San Luis Resort-ya may find a brand new model-don't go to Walmart-you'll only find old models. Be careful when stealing it.

I use a dexter russel that I got from Academy. I usually clean reds from 20-25" and it works fine.

That's the right thing to do!!!
Gotta be someone that would clean fish for a price somewhere !! Its well worth paying.
Last ones I did I used a hatchet and a 8" skinning knife and cursed myself for ever catching the sorry arse fishes that taste like a grilled old overheated radiator hose. Kinda like Scotch.

That picture is actually close to what you need for Redfish.
I use a knife with a serrated edge to get through the scales when half shelling Reds.
Once I'm through the scales I switch to my regular fillet knife.
