  • someting big in clear lake channel

wandering around in the channel yesterday about noon , we noticed two people with fish that looked huge
(not flounder or big slimer ) being caught. Both were around the first bend ( inbound from boardwalk ) fishing on the bottom.
I thought they were hung up , but there was something and really looked like a strong solid pull , like a huge hung
of seaweed at the beach. , first couple used a net , second guy , didnt see him boat the fish. I wish I knew what that fish was. ??Bay was pretty choppy
and it was just cold and windy, we couldnt get a anchor to stick in the current . We gave up when the TPW guys
came out, I had no paperwork on board and boat has no numbers yet so off to the ramp.
    Personal Rant:
I know they were breaking the rules, but survival is ok , i would do it . Older couple wearing rice hats fishing free line, probably
how they were taught as kids very small boat , they had caught a few , TWP had them when we went buy. I hope they
got a scolding and nothing more, Sometimes you thank God for your fortune and let them fish. On the other hand if there was
100 little boats like that then it would be a problem, If memory surves me right texas coast had that issue some years ago
with the shrimp fleet. ( early 1980's google it , sounds horrible KKK and over shrimping and nightmare for everyone ) .
For me, I should have given them one of my reels . I admire those that dont wine, just work at it .

Maybe it was the Loch Nest creature or JAWS. The only time the game warden said anything to me, my fire extinguisher was empty in my boat. He just told me to get another. I was very polite and he was also. I've seen people get hyper, and the game warden loved it. He gave him a nice lottery ticket. Lord Bless.

Might have been one of these dudes. This fellow was cursing the canals in Sea Isle last week. As near as I could guess, about four feet long.

Black Drum cruise up the channels this time of year. They can be large.

TR, that's a submarine with a moving tail. Looks bigger than a 4footer. You'll need some heavy line, big rod and reel, and a big spool. I've seen some 200lb gars in Amistad lake. Lord Bless.

            Big ugly I almost guarantee.

As for the whole "poaching is OK to feed yourself" line, that's BS. If you were really starving, you could buy way more food working instead of spending that time angling.

I'll have to agree you can buy more food on the .99 Menu at McPukes than it costs just in gas and time to poach. In this day and time poaching no matter the reason is never OK!!

                  i agree

My guess is with planohog. I saw a boat fishing on Saturday, lunchtime, across the channel from Bubba Gump's Kemah. Nice drum 35lbs I'm guessing. They were not prepared, net bent, pole strained, small boat. Family fish fry time. They do taste good, if you can ignore the Spaghetti worms.

I fish all the time guys.... My wife and I don't eat a whole lot of fish, but when I do catch a couple reds and trout or flounder on the weekends, I usually swing by Louis fish camp and see if there are any older couples fishing off the pier. Lately I met this little old man in a wheelchair and his elderly wife there. They set up and fish all day on Sunday, I make it a point to look for them and give them my fish since I am blessed so much with the ability to stretch my line when I want. The way to a happy heart is ONE RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS
