  • Help - Need suggestions for new GPS

Finally getting around to purchasing a GPS for the new boat.
Need some suggestions from those that use one as I will. Basic navigation in West and Chocolate Bay.Seems like all of the reviews I read online no matter what brand are 50/50. This unit is great! Next post says use it as an anchor.
    Budget is $500.

    Thanks in advance.

Garmin is really user friendly and you can get a good deal from Amazon.

go to big box store and poke around on a few of them and see what you like. I have a eagle cuda that is about 5 years old that I use
as a back up, Really like that thing often used it in the car before the car came with gps.
I have lowrance touch screen as main unit.

x2. I bought my Lowrance HDS7 from them. Great service.

On a second note, I agree with the 'old iPad' comment above too. The Navionics maps via the Navionics app are pretty darn good.

Baby Tran Cat gave ya a great way to save $$$$-use an iPad or tablet-ya get $1000 features using free download gps apps that can give you googlearth or bing map views or standard NOAA Navigation maps and flip flop between nav or satellite view/maps. For $10, you can even track a buddies trail that uses same app, so when out and he's also out, you can see where he's fishing and vice versa. Chocolate and west bay as well as most all of Galveston bay have great cell coverage. Downside-no depth finder.

I've gone through 4 GPS units-they do not like the heat, so unless ya want to buy them every 4 years or so, always take em off your boat and store in a cool, dry place.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary.
