  • Rod tip repair

I lost the insert out of the tip of my favorite rod. It is an All Star Corky Special. How difficult is it to replace the ceramic out of a rod tip, and where is the best place to buy what I need, or who should I have do it?

Not sure, but are we going to hit the water this week or next? Conditions are not looking great this week, but maybe next week???? Call me if you want to go out.

buy the complete guide, get a razor blade and gently cut around the base of the tip, apply heat and take your time removing. The guides are intended to be replaced as a complete unit. You will need tip glue, find it anywhere, including academy. The guide was a Pac Bay, not sure exactly what material, but any newer guide that looks similar will work. Stick with Fuji or Pac Bay, and something that is corrosion resistant.

If you want a professional look take to someone who wraps/builds rods and have them re wrap.

How do you still have a corky special?? That's a long time ago. Strangely, still the same blank, 783 C, If memory serves correct, that was IM6 or 7 graphite. Very durable!!!

I do this, or take it to FTU and let them do it for $13. You should always carry a spare guide and glue stick Chip....thats like Fishing 101. My tip of the day for you!

I got it from Capt Roy last year. I love the rod, so would love to have another with the same blank..
