I have been putting rat bait out for the last month on a daily basis and they still keep eating it up. Dead rats all the time. Anyone know of a method to keep rats out of the yard?
I've got a Jack Russell and a Border Collie...they kill probably 1 rat a month (plus any other rabbits, squirrels, snake, etc. that get in the back yard)...I don't think you can wipe em out, but you can keep em on the run...they used to get in the attic before we had the dogs, once we got the dogs and got them out of the house we haven't had any back in the house for the past 5 or 6 years. I'm not against cats, but won't allow them in the house, they belong in a barn!
Go to academy and get some fox scent. I got a 2x4 and put an old sock on each side of the back yard. It got rid of rats and possums. They are predators and the rats and other critters don't want to hang around. I tried it and works. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.

Now that's a cool trick. Never heard of that before.
Do you think that the fox scent would work on coons? They are wearing me out eating my cat food. They have learned how to trip my havahart trap then reach through the wire and grab the bait from the side.
PS
I do have a cat and no rats (except the occasional dead one he leaves on the porch for me to see) but he won't mess with the coon.
Show me a man that hates cats, I'll show you a man that has rats.
Seriously, I've never known anyone that gave a chance to a cat that didn't get his heart stolen. Dogs are awesome, but cats have their place. I've had cats that acted just like dogs. But with most cats, you just have to get used to the fact that you're not their master. You're staff. They come to you when they want, not when you want them. But the affection you get is pretty cool if you let it happen.
