  • Kayak Fishing Guide Recommendations

    Gents,

Brand new to the website and fairly new to Galveston. Have fished the surf a couple of times in my kayak. Would like to go kayak fishing with a guide on the inland side of the island and start to learn some areas.

Could any of you please recommend a good kayak fishing guide?

    Thanks for your help!

JP Chavez when he's in town. I know he has been in Florida recently... but might be back.

goog guy. castingtails charters i believe.

Other wise, a trip with Capt Steve Soule in his skiff is worth the trip, you'll learn tons with Steve (JP as well) but steves a fishing encyclopedia. theshallowist.com

Welcome to the site. You'll enjoy it here. One thing I might recommend is that you hire a guide that specializes in shallow flats fishing and tell them you are a kayak guy and need an introduction to the Galveston back country. You have the benefit of going in a boat which will let you cover more ground and you'll be who to communicate better in order to ask more questions.

I have been kayaking east and west bay for a number of years and I got started the same way. I recommend you call Capt Scott Null or Capt Steve Soule. Both spend a lot of time in the marsh and are good 'teaching' guides.

If you haven't found texaskayakfisherman.com, that's a good site too. Lots of advice for new kayakers. There are a lot of good reports in their archives that give insight in conditions and tactics.

Of course, your the choice is to pick an area and jump right in. When I first got my kayak, I spent about 6 months fishing Cold Pass and Titlum Tatlum bayou to learn how it fishes under different conditions. Experience is a good teacher.

Enjoy your kayak and welcome again.

Thanks for the recommendations and the welcome. Going to give Capt "Mud Minnow George" a try next weekend and will also hopefully spend a day in the boat with Steve Soule in November.
