Hello to all my FWE brothers and sisters.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I would like to encourage you all to get familiar with doing and giving self examinations........you too fellas! Lady anglers, please take the time give yourselves monthly self examinations. Fellas, show your woman you care by getting comfortable giving your wive or girlfriend an examination. Fathers of young ladies, stress how important it is for your daughters to perform self examinations.
Why buoy?
Because early detection is credited with possibly saving my wife's life this year. In March, Candace found a lump while giving herself a RANDOM self examination. She showed me how to give her an examination and asked me to see if I could find anything "weird". I found it!
The following months were horribly scary. I had just lost my grandfather to cancer and now I find out that my wife possibly has cancer in her body. The cancer diagnosis was confirmed in May (on her 40th birthday of all days) and then the chaotic race for removal and treatment began. The story is too long and personal to put online. I will say this though, the first verse (maybe eight sentences?) of George Strait's "I Saw God Today" brings me to full on tears no matter where I am or who is around.
My wife is doing well today. The physical cancerous masses were removed. She has been taking weekly chemotherapy to kill any microscopic cells that may be lingering.
Guys, please don't leave it up to the women in our lives to check themselves whenever they happen to think of it. Remind them and encourage them to check monthly. If anyone ask if you wish to donate to the cause this month, give what you can when you can. We were surprised at how many organizations contacted us in case we needed help or needed talk to someone.
We should be back on the water next year. See y'all around.
