  • Message to All Currently Enrolled Aggies

Howdy guys.. I'm in the process of starting up a saltwater fishing club up here at the College Station campus. It's going to be called "Aggie Gulf Coast Fishermen." So far I have a couple of guys who have been helping me through the process, but I'm going to need more help. As of now we have done everything to become acknowledged as an official club, except for finding an advisor. What I need from yall is some names of professors, administrators, or employees of A&M College Station that might be interested in becoming our advisor. This is the last step to becoming acknowledged, and it is a very important one. I have already spoken to three professors about this position, and all have kindly turned down the position. So please help! Also, guys or girls who are interested in joining the club, please let me know. I have a feeling that this is going to get really big up here, will be lots of fun, and will help network Aggies who enjoy saltwater fishing. Let me know what yall think!
    Thanks, Joe Calhoun

I am class of '76. I am President of the Alumni Board for the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Chapter at TAMU in College Station. I attend monthly board meetings in College Station and have a number of connections with the University. I would first suggest you contact the Dean of the Wildlife and Fisheries Science Department to find a sponsor. The professors there are already predisposed to hunting, fishing, wildlife, etc. A Sig Ep advisor for our Chapter is Bret Collier who has a position in the Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences Department. Bret stays extremely busy with some high level important projects but could introduce you to the right people in his department I am sure who have an interest in the coastal fisheries. His email address is bret@tamu.edu Tell him that David M. Smith, the Sig Ep, told you to contact him about your effort. I have more ideas if you need them. Maybe we can get together when I am next in College Station. That may be in February, however, after the winter break. Good Luck.
If we don't leave any, there won't be any.

WOW!! you won't believe this but I am a sig ep up here. I pledged Fall 08, I'm actually about the head out to the house right now. Thanks for the great help. I will contact Bret and see what he can do for me. I'm done with class this week and will be heading back down to clear lake on thursday. Going to be doing alot of fishing within the month to come.
Also do you know a guy named Tom Worthen? He was a sig ep and graduated in 78. He is a real good friend of my family.

Small world but Sig Ep connections are wide and deep. I was just at the Chapter House Wed nite meeting with Jonathan McSpadden and the rest of the EC. I have headed up the board for the last 10 years and was one of the ones responsible for acquiring the Chapter House. The Chapter had a recruitment event at my Bay House in Sea Isle this past August.

I don't know Tom but I hope you tell him to visit www.texasmu.org and be sure he updates his alumni contact information from there.

If you want to get together and do some fishing while you are on winter break, let me know. My email is dmsmith@dmslegal.com; work phone 713.622.6866 and my cell phone is 713.854.0148.

I am wade fishing with Reeltime and Plugger in the morning out of Sea Isle (West Galveston Bay). Hoping we get on them. Talk to you soon. I'm headed to the car to Galveston for a little fishing, oh yeah...
