  • Who has Redfish Elbow?????

How many of you guys have had redfish elbow in the past and how many opted for surgery.

Being an operator for 10+ years and fishing as much as i do, ive just plum worn my elbow out. Im schedule for surgery on Jan 4th and am gonna regret missing most of my big trout season. This year is gonna be Great for big trout.. I just have the feeling

Im curious for those who have had surgery how long it took to truely heal from it. Im lucky, its my right elbow that is the worst so not the one i set the hook with. The left arm is better, but not much. Im planning on doing that one next year

Take the time to get it right, and you want have any problems. Worked for my other hip.

Oh yeah...not red elbow but I got trout toe, from kickin myself in the *** from not going after reading your and Chips report!

      That sucks!
I have only been fishing for a couple of years, so give me a few more and I will catch up. Of course, when you catch 50 or more reds every time you go out, you are likely to have more problems than us average anglers! I have had 2 back surgeries already and I am sure there will be more to follow.
I will try to catch all those big trout you will be missing out on.....lol

My Dr refused to give me more than 2 cortizone shots. He said if 2 dont help ya out, the only solution is surgery.

Chip, Hence the reason i call it refish elbow lol

Got it......I was back golfing 3 weeks after my last back surgery, so I would be surprised if you have to lay off that long.

Operator knee is much more serious. Chair at the lowest position in full recline, feet kicked up even with the head(or above)...then your plant manager walks in!!! You spring up, only to have your knees pop from being hyperextended for half the 12 hour shift. Man that stuff hurts!

Thomas, just curious, how many doctors have you seen, if one only--------did he do a MRI? I use a lady that does deep muscle message therapy, she is the message therapist for the Texans. It is painful while she works on you, but, huge relief the next day. Not that I don't trust doctors, just saying I'd get more than one point of view before I'd let anybody cut on me

Thomas, have you talked to a sports medicine specialist? or perhaps a good physical therapist? I think that the best advice you could get is to try and recondition before rebuild. My right elbow has been hurting a bit lately, more from not fishing for a long period and then jumping right back to 8 hour power wades, slinging top waters as far as I can. I have a good friend who worked as a P.T., he still guides a a fair amount, and another friend who is a general practioner, who specializes in sports med. Never hurts to hear a second oppinion about some thing that could take you out of the game.

My last advice is to consider some form of physical conditioning training. I have off and on over the years been very serious about wieght trainng, and can tell you that when I work out regularly, I feel very little joint pain other than what I induce. when I'm not training, I find that my back, neck and other areas tend to fatigue faster and hurt more. You don't have to do much but that operator lifestyle can actually hurt you. I've been working on a lot of writting lately and sitting on the bed with the laptop is really screwing up my back.

                              Just my .02$..
