It would have been faster to go to the flea market and buy a new number. For a small fee, you probably could have gotten your own number and access to all the accrued benefits.

Cept an employee and an employer are required by law(being done or not by either) to fill out a I-9 Employment Verification.
If both/either falsify information, fines are levied. Law since 1986.
IMHO both should go to prison.

Plugster, Im glad you are getting it lined out.

The other guy might have higher benefits, I'd compare before agreeing you are you!

Had a problem with Medicare when I told them I was changing from my company insurance. It took at least three phone calls and a face to face to straighten it out! Remember, Plugger, you have earned the right to that "entitlement". Oh wait-entitlement= free, right? Just keep bugging them every chance you get until you get it straightened out.

That was my same type experience. I certainly was a minority-was the only Caucasian in the place-was the downtown SS Office. I liked that the Gummint workers were mainly recent immigrants with little mastery of speaking English-and Obamee wants to bring in 11,000,000 more-I guess the unemployed will appreciate that a lot!

Well , I got out after 6 hours without getting arrested . Got my work benefit history verified , and registered for Medicare . Or so they say . Naw , I believe I'm righteous and locked in . The two guys I dealt with were cool , pleasant , and helpful . Sure it had some hiccups but I've had worse happen to me .

It's amazing what those Gummint workers can accomplish.

People have Medicare and social security money deducted from their pay checks . That money is spent on other programs not just Medicare and social security . The government prophesies that funds for those are running low but don't say funds are running low for entitlement programs where the recipients have not paid any monies into the system . I would have a problem with the system if Medicare and social security benefits are cut if other programs aren't equally cut .
