  • Galveston Bay area , Wood Deck Treatment questions

Been looking at deck treatments to protect a new wood deck and stair well. The wood is not treated.
I thought the answer was , get thomsons and be done with it. No so fast, There is tons of bad reviews
on nearly all the leading big box brands.
My question is , what works, what have your experiences been.
    Thanks --tmoore

I used Thompson's-seemed OK to me. If ya find something else, let us know.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

I just had two docks redone with treated and will be treating in the next few weeks.. Like you, there are a lot of bad reviews .., just use anything and plan on doing it every couple of years.

I'm not sure you can find it anymore, but SWBT used to soak their telephone poles in Kreosote. If you don't care how the wood looks, that is your best option. The reason for breakdown of 'water' protection is usually because the sun's UV rays breaks down the sealer, then water attacks. So find a good sealer with high UV protection. If you're looking for beauty in the wood, use Linseed Oil first then seal it.

Creosote on a deck, prolly not. I used Thompsons a looong time ago. Really don't know what's out there now.

so far I have only decided that oil base is better than water based. seems that pretreatment may be important.

Google TWP stain.com , you can even order samples. My deck is older and after rolling it on looks great and beads water like crazy. Highly rated, i used the 100 series in pecan.
