  • Anybody got a good croaker hole ?

Louis' Bait Csmp is having a kids fishing tourney on Saturday August 23. I plan to give it a go with Team Fresh Dead. The prize is based on best croaker and best piggy perch.

Any good ideas on how to target a species I normally avoid? If you're interested in the tourney, there is a flyer at the bait camp.

That's cool and thanks for sharing the info on the event! I specialize in big piggy perch...haha
Use a small treble hook and peel the shell off of the piece of shrimp you're using. I set the kids up with a Carolina Rig but keep the line short so they can cast it. Any structure should hold piggys and it sure keeps them busy. Those rocks at Campbells are good to set up on and usually a happening place for the kids. We haven't done this in years, but when you're trying to keep a kid interested for an hour or two this is the way to do it. Follow it up with a Sonic Slush and dip in the pool to really score the extra points!!! Haha, they still talk about how much fun they had, but now it's all about redfish......

Thanks Randy. Great advice. If anyone else is interested in the tournament, here are the flyers (copied from Louis' Bait Camp Facebook page). It will be a good warmup for the FWE tournament at the end of September.

The sunken shrimp boat just north of the flood gate before entering Moses Lake in late August into September holds some solid croaker. A number 10 treble on a Carolina rig with fresh dead and peeled shrimp will get you on them.

The deep cut between the first and long second island off the boat launch off the Galveston side of the I-45 bridge is full of foot - long Croakers. I'm tired of feeding 'em. There are piggies and sand trout as well as decent black drum, occasional flounder and rat reds. But I got the only keeper red there the other day.

You gotta get a money croak like the one I got a few years back!
