  • 8013 Barocco Dr. 1980-2014

Not fishing related at all, but here goes.

I'm going through a very tough time right now. My parents have sold the house I grew up in, in Harahan, La. I went by today to take pictures and say goodbye. I thought I'd be fine, but I was a basket case. I went through so many emotions, the tears were constant. We moved to Barocco Drive in July 1980. I had just turned 7, That's 34 years to call a place home. No matter where I moved, there was always Home if I needed it. The flood of memories in every corner of the house and yard is something I'll treasure forever. The empty rooms and yard were filled with old friends, long gone or disconnected, from every stage in life, they were with me again. Planting a tree, riding bikes, building a fort, playing Star Wars, camping out in the yard, playing in the "clubhouse" Dad built for us, playing JAWS in the boat (I always wanted to be Quint), working on cars in the garage, helping Dad in the shop, Mom in the kitchen always making something wonderful, getting ready for fishing trips, and oh the high school parties, parent sanctioned and otherwise . . . . I hope they all know how much I miss them if they see this here. The hardest part I found, was saying a final goodbye to my buried pets. I know it's not a tragedy, it's just moving on with life, but I've always been an extremely sentimental person. To me, this is very much like losing a loved one. I only hope the next family enjoys the same feelings there that I did. May God bless that home, and all who enter.

Some say the number 13 is bad luck, but I can assure you, 8013 is not. "Hey Dad, thanks for buying the Barocco house."
From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

I think you summed it up pretty well there, Sandy. Hang in there.

Ray Dean it's been 25 years since my mom passed away and it still make me sad when I drive by the house on Westfield. I too miss those hugs! It took the passing of my mom for me to understand the saying " you can't go home ". Coachlaw hang in there and Ray Dean you do the same!

You can always Googlearth it and maybe see some 'new folks' building the same kinds of memories you built!!
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.
