You can have no more than 6 traps for recreational crabbing, float has to be at least 6 inches across. Crabs have t measure-----inches across the shell. You have to attach a gear tag with name, address, and date set trap. I think that tag is good for a week. For more details, cheek the TPWD website...you van buy them at Academy for $39 each including the float.

You might want to check www.bluecrab.info There are a couple of guys on the Gulf Coast part of the forum that are local. If you read their reports you can get an idea of where they are crabbing.

Don't mind all the chatter about West Bay Crabber, he's a friend of Coe's and just comes on here to stir up ****.

Read the regs about how many traps you can run and how to mark them.

        Didn't know about this rule:
        Crab Traps
        • May only remove crab traps from the water or remove crabs from crab traps during the period from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

        Here is the entire link:

There really is a West Bay Crabber and he's pretty much a jerk and aint the one on this site and YES he has stolen my neighbor's traps. BTC can back that up.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

Overnight soak with 6 traps. Yielded 15 legal blues and a couple stones.

I bought my 6 traps at Walmart. Later in the weekend I found some much better traps at West End Bait and Tackle. If I ever retire any of the Walmart traps I will definitely upgrade to the better traps.

Okay, I'm going to pipe in here. I started salt water fishing by going blue crabbing. I have a kazillion stories on that. Am still a fan of a chicken neck on a string and reeling them in gently. I only used to throw a trap in, wire or net, and attended them completely. As far as I know, in Texas, you can put out traps off your property and not worry with floats and names. However, whenever I did throw a trap out into the canals we lived on, I put a float out there to warn the boaters. I do know that one of my last neighbors put traps out in the bay, and caught wonderful huge crabs. That said, check the regs. But I think you can put 6 traps into the water off of your private property? Correct me if you know differently, it wont hurt my feelings.
