  • Boat Doctor?

Got a weird electrical issue with my boat. Got down to Jamaica Beach last night and the bilge pump was running. Thought maybe a faulty float switch on the pump...fired up the motor and when I went to turn the bilge off it wouldn't go off. Then all my other electrical switches started acting funny. Live well switch turned the court lights on, court light switch turned the radio on, etc.

I'm looking for a boat doctor who makes house calls to JB. Any recommendations?

Thanks Mack. I talked to Joe and he's booked through early next week. Think I'll be a boat mechanic in my next life. :-)

It's summer, and there are lots of folks down for the holiday. Your kind of new down here, so maybe you don't know about "island time". If you call anybody for anything and they show up, your pretty lucky. Find a mechanic, plumber, etc. and make them part of your family.

...sounds like it's a corrosion issue. I have to ask do you have a Perko battery disconnect switch on you boat? If not you need to have one installed as it will isolate all power to your boat and will prevent anything from burning up in case there is a short. I have seen cases at the shop where Tilt and Trim motors melted the wiring due to a faulty switch on the cowling and a Perko would have saved both the trim motor and the wiring.
Back to your issue. Check under your console and see if you have a corrosion issue on the fuse block for starters.

If you need assistance after the July 4th weekend I am sure the Techs at Evans Marine in Bacliff can get you fixed up.
