And speaking of The Boilers, that was the wreck of the blockade runner Acadia. I think I learned about it from Plugger ( the book, not the dentist ). Here's an article I found when searching around.

I think it was further up originally, then to the right of bridge,, rumors after that ,on brazoria side, where that pier is on the right side of round, but do not think it was ever used

I have an old map of San Luis Pass - mid 19th century old. I went and dug it up in the garage. It was published in 1853 so it doesn't have the boilers on it, or Rooster Collins pier for that matter.

OK, I'll ask. JT, are you saying Roosters was not where the map shows and where I remember it being. I found another old map and I'd swear the arrow is pointing to his pier. I can remember being able to see the top of the toll booth from his place.

JT has to use a gps just to find his way home.

Spike the cat had more brain cells than JT.

The last map showing the L shaped pier was where Roosters was.

Don't remember ever seeing a boat launch there. Just the one at the KOA campground on Freeport side.

When I first started fishing the "Rooster Collins Flats" in 1981, as I recall the bait camp and pier was already gone. However the remnants of all the piers that are shown on that old fishing map were still there and the fishing, especially for reds and flatties was very good very shallow and close to the shore around the old pilings. In early 1983 General Homes had bought that area in hopes of developing it and built that old water treatment plant that used to be there. Prior to Hurricane Alicia most all the old pilings were removed. After Alicia General Homes must have given up on developing there as nothing was built for many years.
