Greens Lake?

First let me state that this message board is WAY more friendly/helpful than many of the others (2cool). I get a sense of community here without too many smart-***** comments and that's very cool.

Now my question...I've been fishing Greens Cut with pretty good success...but want to try and get back up in to Greens Lake as I've seen some good reports there. I run a 20ft Key West Bay Reef that drafts about a foot. I don't want to just go tearing up in to Greens Lake so I'm hoping someone can give me a rough idea of what to look out for o the way in. Wouldn't mind a few pointers in the right direction on where to fish but realize I'm reaching now. I certainly don't mind figuring it out.

Also looking to get back to Halls Lake but will save that for another post.

When you enter greens come in at the middle of the lake....One reef to the right when you come in and super shallow way in the back. If you see a red jetski don't follow it!

What about trolling in there ? Are you planning to go father up than would make trolling practical ? I haven't been back there myself . I'll listen and learn .

Big sand flat on right, seems to be 3-4th in middle on reg tide. Almost every point has a reef. Lost a lot of shore from Ike...bayou in back leads into the marsh, never been back in there...

I think I misunderstood . You are just trying to get into greens safely , not up into the bayous where it gets real shallow. Like mentioned , there's a reef to avoid to the right as you go in from that point out to less than half way to the middle . Enter the middle of the cut and make an arc shape entry , like banana shape , keeping left of center . I've kept on plane like that to the bayou mouth at the NE cornor . I have seen guys drift fishing over that reef on the right . Keep in mind higher or lower water levels due to tides and wind . You might try it on a high tide the first time to make it easier . Crab traps in there to avoid . I haven't fished it a lot .

I don't mind trolling. Looking at Google it looks like you can come in the entrance on plane and run towards the back till it gets shallow. Then troll from there?

Good info, plugger. It's been a long time since I fished that water but I used to like to fish the shoreline to the left as you enter the lake. Good redfish spot, or used to be.

I find the deepest water in the lake to be west shoreline 30 yards off the shore...also agree to go slow and cruise around as best you can on a trolling motor...this time of year is generally not a problem...winter is a different story altogether
