That's a good idea.... Does anyone have any experience with a hybrid boad like the south winds 201 hybrid? It's like a pontoon boat with a fiberglass hull

Boat and motor are just 2/3's of the equation make sure the trailer is solid and road worthy! Can't fish broken down on the side of the road especially if it's a 3.5 hour trip one way. Good luck!

Very true I have built a few trailers so I'm confident in looking one over...

I found a 17'2" key west 1720 CC I like but not sure how well it would handle the chop on east bay... Any opinions or experience?

If it floats, then it will do fine, but it may be a slow, wet ride. Like any smaller boat, you have to pick your days and launch close to where you intend to fish.
