Thanks. She is home and tired. She had two bags of antibiotics going in her IV. The doctor said if they waited 24 more hours, she would have likely lost her foot.

I got it a few years ago and it showed up within a few hours with red spots that looked like ant bites that moved up my leg very quickly and incresed in size. I spent 9 hours in the er and they knocked it out.
You have to be aware if you feel something is wrong after wading, get it checkes out immediately.

It was really crazy but you just gotta take care of anything that happens timely.

That's pretty unusual to catch Vibrio in open beachfront, especially while the water is still relatively cool by May standards. Generally you associate Vibrio with warmer, more brackish bay water. I hope this isn't some new strand.

Glad she's doing better...early detection is the key...good thing your mom had the smarts to get her to the ER!

For those who have liver disease or immunocompromising conditions.....or anyone who is really worried about getting this infection, you can get an antibiotic that is designed to combat it. The name of the drug is doxycycline. My good friend and doctor, who is a avid fisherman keeps doxycycline on him at all times. I call him for prescriptions from time to time. It is a relatively inexpensive drug. It comes in a pill form. I am sure if you were to contract the infection and go to the hospital, they would administer doxycycline intravenously.

Albert...When you say you call him for prescriptions from time to time, do you regularly take the stuff when you get nicked or cut? Or just because they may be out of date?

Too much and you'll build an immunity, or should I say...make the antibiotics less effective? I don't know, this is a question not a statement!

I have never have taken the medication. It is there merely for precautionary measures in the case I had a problematic cut.
