Thanks for posting the videos... not sure I'm changing, but he does save belly meat... ack!

I've tried electrics and have killed a few... don't like 'em and always go back to my old Rapala. It's never let me down and holds a nice edge... reds no problem either.

I use the mister twister electric knife. I also have the saltwater version. I've had the mister twister for over 15 years. Finally bought some new blades. I've had the saltwater one for 3 years. I only use it for reds. I sharpen all my serrated knifes. That's why they lasted 15 years. I use the rapala knives for taking the bones out. I also use them when I don't catch to many fish. At first I mangled the catfish with the electric. After 3 fish, I got the hang of it. Works great on bass, catfish, stripers, trout, sand trout, reds, flounder. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.

I saw a guy effectively use a ground down fillet knife to cut around a red then use a fillet knife there after .

That curved blade he used did the trick.

I know I've already posted about this, but as an owner of over 200 knives (and a user of about 10 knives) I think a lot more thought, reflection, bourbon drinking, porch sitting must be done before you comit to something this important. It's okay to ask opinions, watch videos, try a few.... but to pick a couple of tools to use ??? That is a BIG commitment that only You can answer !

Go try a few, stay away from the dirty ones, find one or two (Who am I to Judge) that you can form a lasting relationship with.

Lol. True. I got a lot of good info from everyone. I'm kinda new at filleting fish, just needed to get pointed in the right direction and the kind people here did that for me. Gonna give some a try. Thanks to everyone. Be safe out on the water, tight lines and heavy stringers. God bless.

I once took a Farberware kitchen butcher knife out to my shop and put it on the grinder and whittled it down to about a 3/8" wide blade making it very flexible. I sharpened it on a big whetstone and it turned out to be the best knife I ever owned for filleting soft fish like trout and flounder. I had to resharpen it often but it was worth it. You don't have to buy an expensive knife to get good results....sometimes you just have to be CHEAP!

Harvey.....if you would quit breaking mine at the cleaning table maybe I could afford a new one. I personally use a filet knife about once a year.
