  • Kudos to Custom Coastal Rods

Recently I commissioned APSLP here of Custom Coastal Rods to do a delicate job on my grandfather's old rod. I've been using it since I was about 10 years old and it means a lot to me. A couple years ago a good friend of mine stepped on the rod and messed it up pretty good. I also had a few others that needed eyes replaced, etc. and I had been trying to get different guys to fix them up for a while, but nobody would take them on. I realize these guys make money on new rods, not fixing old ones.

Well, Allen took on the job and WOW, I'm very happy with the results. By necessity I'm very frugal when it comes to equipment, and I tend to use it forever. Allen listened to my concerns about price, gave me an estimate I could deal with, did an awesome job, AND came in under his estimate. I couldn't be happier. Thanks to him, I'll be fishing again with my Paw's old rod for the first time in over 2 years. I don't know if he does this sort of work all the time, so you'll have to ask him about your particular job. All I can say is, if he does this well repairing old stuff, I can only imagine the job he does on new ones.

If I ever splurge for a new rod, I'll be getting it from him. - Sandy

Absolutely! I spoke with Allen about a spinner I wanted got throwing popping corks and he made me exactly what I was looking for!
    I'll be back again.

That's great Sandy and am glad he helped you out-I find the same issue-it's difficult to find someone to fix the broken eyelets. WTG CCR!

BTW Sandy, so how is that zebco 33 rod and reel working now???

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself!

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. After my Dad passed two years ago, I cleaned out his storage room and found over thirty zebco 33's on old fiberglass rods. Lol. Every one of them worked and none were new.

Those old Zebcos were good. New ones last only a couple trips. I even got one of the new "ALL METAL" ones a year or so ago. Lasted less than 3 months. I don't really use them, but they're great to have at the camp for kids.

I'd love to pick up one or two for my wife. It's all she knows how to use.

You got two coming , Bruce. When I go to Santa Fe, I'll grab you up a couple. You'll probably need to replace the old mono.
