  • beach cleanup

I have always wanted to put together a beach clean up weekend, similar to what Capt. Billy does on the national seashore, but on the upper coast somewhere. Sort of a big volunteer group, and I think fisherman would be the best people to get involved. I have some questions first. The main concern I am having is looking for an area to base the event. Would anyone know or think of any reasons I would or would not be able to do such a thing on Galveston Island? Would there be any sort of permits needed or anything like that? Also I have some dates in mind, but I am looking for any ideas on that also. I think it would be awesome to do it on a big tourist weekend to be seen cleaning up the beach by as many people as possible, but without conflicting with everyone's plans at the same time so that more people would be able to join. Any comment suggestions are welcomed. I am in very early stages of planning and have never attempted anything like this. I may get in over my head but I think it would be worth it.

I highly recommend that kappa kappa kappa weekend for the event. Would love to see the looks on some faces when you hand them a pick stick an a trash bag.
I have an uncontrolable desire to wanna jerk my rod.

I think there is or was su h a thing each year in September called "beach cleanup weekend" where all who wan to volunteer and clean up Galveston beaches. But another event would surely be welcomed and attended also. Folks always are ready to come out and help clean up the beaches...

              Surfside needs it.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Yes Surfside needs it. Some fool had littered the beach with piles of old christmas trees. Took me days to haul them all off.

Many would take hold of the bag, stick and ask "Don't I get a Safety Vest like they gave me on my last Community Service Gig required by my Judge's Sentencing?"

Thank goodness that mess (Kappa Weekend/Beach Partay Weekend) is no longer around-sheez, even Walmart closed due to all the theft.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Check it out. GLO's adopt-a-beach clean-up is April 26th. The club might consider signing up as a group and get a section.
