  • Shrimp yet?

I'm beginning to see signs of life in Olfatts, especially little (glass?) minnows. Not much perch and no shrimp yet. Am I just not checking close enough, or is it still too early for shrimp near shore? I've been exploring my cove beside Moody in a tube float and not getting any bites on live shrimp, let alone artificials. Soooo, more patience? If so, when should I expect to see shrimp in my cast net?

It's generally late April / early May before this years crop is big enough and plentiful enough to catch in your cast net.

The only shrimp I've seen have been less than a quarter of an inch long. I've seen a bunch of these in the lights.

Thanks, guys. I'll be patient then. I'm hoping a drainage ditch and shallow sandy bank nearby will allow me to net shrimp like I used to at Portland, TX. (Before a huge gar found the honey hole and set up residence.)

Cought some nice trout in upper G-Bay 2 weeks ago that had spit up some 2" shrimp.

Plenty of shrimp down deep - just none of any size in the marsh at present.

Go to Academy and look in the crappie section for small shad that look like the little minnow you are seeing. Flounder will gorge on them for the next few months.

Will the little minnows I'm seeing get big enough to put on a hook?

That's my goal, only I don't want to have to pay for 'em. I'm looking for a spot so good that I just might shelve fishing for shrimping.
