  • is there any bait showing up in canals yet?

I'll be staying in a canal house this weekend and just wondered if the lights at night would give a shot for decent fishing?

Yes. I'm seeing two different sized fish. I'm thinking two different hatches of mullet. Tiny shrimp, too. Maybe someone will chime in and let us know about the fish.

Few mullet, lots of glass minnows and young-of-the-year fry.

Havent seen any trout. This is in BV. Tiki is closer to deep water and shell and may be a better option.

I never had any luck canal fishing . I hear live bait is best or tiny lures like white spec rigs . I hope the weather is good for ya'll .

Thanks everybody! Good to hear on the bait!
Doc, at night I've usually done good at night in the canals on trout using saltwater assassin glow paddle tails and early in the morning throwing light jigs . The speck rigs do well too. Heather has caught some reds during the day with gulps too in the canals. I'm really hoping the weather will be decent too. Probably paddle out too snake island a few times.

Glass minnows showed up a month ago, some larger bait and fish have moved in, saw a bunch of trout this weekend. Just can't get them to hit anything. I had a shrimp on a hook all night still alive the next morning.

That's normally pretty hard to do! If they were busting at all the only thing I can think then is they were majorly keyed in on the minnows. It happened to me in late October once . Trout were feeding in the lights fairly steadily and the tide really moving but I couldn't buy a bite , I finally snagged one on a small paddle tail and it threw up glass minnows all over the deck so I switched to a one inch glowing assassin on a little ball head jug lime you'd use for crappie. Had a limit to 20" an hour later and even caught a barely legal red with it!!

Some of the most consistant catches of Trout the last 3 weeks have come from the canals. I have been taking partys up in the canals and wearing the Trout out. Plum Assassins on 1/8 to 1/4 ounce lead heads. Lots of bait in the canals.
