I lived up there for a few years. The lake is not all that big, parks are nice.In the colder weather the hot water discharge for the power plant is the place to fish. You should use a deep diving bait, the reds tend to stay a little deep. You might find some crappie in the timber, not way in the timber.Use to be some good grass for bass cover.I've seen my cousin with a 48 qt ice chest full of reds.Ha he even converted his ski boat with rod holders to slow troll the deep crank baits.Good luck hope this helps.

we had a great time and the weather was perfect for us. it was my 3 year olds first camping trip and he did really good and enjoyed it alot, especailly at night time helping me with gathering more firewood and of course cooking smores. between throwing rocks in the water and beating trees with sticks thats really all he needed to keep himself occupied so i can tell he will be an outdoorsmen. i think we had the best camping spot in the campground with a nice view of the lake and our own trail the lead down to it. the campsites were nice and spread out with ours being a little more secluded than the rest which made it that much nicer. listening to all the coyotes howling and random animals running through the woods gave us a little excitment at night time.

we met some members from the texas chapter of http://www.hammockforums.net/ which were really nice people. they travel around to different campgrounds and sleep in hammocks instead of tents or cabins. one guy gave us a run down on hammocks and i never realized besides the "hammock between two palms trees" how detailed you get get with them. some people there had custom made hammocks that they sewed together themselves complete with mosquito netting, rain tarp, extra padding and insulation in them, others had ones they bought online for $150 and up. it was pretty cool looking at all of them and being able to try them out. one guy happend to be a member of texaskayakfisherman.com so of course i had to pass this site along to him. didnt catch any fish but didnt really fish more than 30 mins, but it looks like a great lake for kayak fishing and since i will definately be back, my kayak is going with me next time. will post up some pics when i get my camera back tonight.

Sounds like you had a good trip dude. Glad to hear the little 'un likes the outdoors, keep it up!

LOL, a whole forum for hammock enthusiasts? What handle does the TKFer use?

Fairfield sounds like a good lake to fish. I hear it has a bunch of tilapia in it too, which would be fun to catch and eat.
