Does anybody know if they are having the regular menu tomorrow or is it prix fixe?

If it's prix fixe, what's fur supper granpa?

Give them a call and ask. I don't take her out on Valentines Day to any restaurant because the service and food are the worst compared to any other day of the year.

It was a prix fixe menu.

        Apps:
        Raw oysters
        Crab Fritters w/ bisque
        Seared Tuna something or another

        Entree:

        Braised something Pork
Surf n Turf (Petite filet and 2 shrimp)
        Almondine Snapper
        Lamb Chops

        Dessert:
        Bacon Peach Cobbler
        Smoked Apple Pie

They ran out of the app that we would have selected, crab fritters and bisque, which left oysters or tuna. Oysters it was, they were tiny.

The entrees were good. Surf and turf (petite filet w/ 2 shrimp) is what she selected and I selected the almond crusted snapper. The snapper was supposed to be served with rice pilaf but they ran out of that too, so they put mashed taters on the plate. We sampled from each others plates and both agreed that you could not have gone wrong with either choice. Good stuff other than I'd wish they had served the rice with the fish instead of mashed taters.

The dessert sucked. Choice of bacon peach cobbler or smoked apple pie. Both were served in tiny tins that you normally see by the cash register at the local stop n rob with pecan pie in it, but smaller. Again we selected one of each. the half of one slice of peach in the cobbler was way overwhelmed by bacon taste but mysteriously vacant of any trace of bacon bits in the mix. The half of one slice of apple that was swimming in the sweet filling that didn't have any smokey flavor to it at all was better than the bacon peach concoction, but still way underwhelming in presentation and taste.

It was overpriced for what was served. I've been there many times before and know that they can do much better. If that was my first time there, I probably wouldn't go back. But I'll give them a pass because it's been better every other time I was there.

Lesson learned. Skip the big event days there and got when it's better. But that is probably the case for most smaller places that don't have the capacity to burn and churn.

I took the wife for dinner couple of weeks ago and we decided that it was not worth another try. Food was okay but not worth the price. You can get the same quality food at Logan's.

It's normally a little spendy, but worth the price to keep from going to Galveston or Lake Jackson from SLP.

However, Valentine's Day was twice the normal price with only executing at about half of the normal expectations from them. I know they are small and things happen, but rice isn't an expensive commodity to run the chance of not having any on hand. And the lack of effort on the dessert, which is the last thing that leaves an impression on the guest before they leave, was lacking all the way around.

The sad part is, when they did come around to the table to see how I was enjoying things, I just had to say it was fine and I enjoyed it to keep from being a sourpuss in front of the wife when we were out to have a goodtime. No sense in telling them the way I felt at that moment in time, it wouldn't do me any good or help the situation any. I guess I should call or swing by and let them know my disappointment so they really know how it was perceived.

They seem to be hard working folks there and really appear to want to serve the guest well.

I've never dined upstairs, but the bleu cheese burger downstairs is epic!
