Don't be too quick to discount that Minn Kota. Great motor. I've got one of the white salt water ones and from everything I've heard the MK's are better.

I have an old Minn Kota 55#, 42" shaft, 12 volt bow mount you can have for $100.00 works fine (I think)

The only difference between the minn kota fresh and salt water models with the composite shaft is the color and the price. They charge a few dollars more for the salt versions to cover a slight increase in warranty costs due to harsher environment.

Buying used wouldn't matter which version it is if it's out of warranty. I have a freshwater model I've used for ten years in salt.

You bring up a good point ibtsoom.

              mini x fan,
What are you wanting to do and what do you think a black one can't do?

I've ran the dog sh!t out of these black ones for years and years and years with no issues. That's why I bought this one.

The reason this one is not mounted is only because I gave the small boat away and it's too small for my other boats.

I'm just wanting a solid motor to use for fishing shorelines or working birds on a 14' dargel skout. I've read that some of the black "freshwater" ones don't hold up as well in saltwater. But y'all bring up a great point about the warranties and I can't argue with y'all's experiences!

Why get a trolling motor to work birds? Just be like everyone else And come in blazin with the outboard running while 2-3 hundred birds at working ? Lmao

Hahah! In that case, maybe I should invest in some subs for the radio too so I can play me some rap!

Same here. I've had a " Fresh " water unit on my boat for years. No problems.

Don't knock the freshwater motors. I had one on the boat for 3 years before I broke something on it. Then put a bigger one on the bow and then ran into the dock at camp pretty hard and snapped the head off. And the one I've got on it now works just fine, and it's been 10 months? I just have trouble trying to keep the battery charged. You could always get a freshwater and paint it white if that's your concern.
Yeah, and all the muchachas they call me big pappa, when I throw pesos their way!
