Single Hook replacement for Fatboy Corky? 1/0 or 2/0 Gam
Single Hook replacement for Fatboy Corky? 1/0 or 2/0 Gam
Any advice on what size Gamakatsu Live Bait with Ring hook to replace #4 trebles on Fatboy Corky? I know Corky Devil is a 2/0 and original Corky a 1/0.
I would use the lightest, so #1's. I quit using single hooks on lures, except sometimes on small top waters in heavy grass. I guess it could help in the current algae slime season too. Those Gamakatsu hooks are expensive too, and rust pretty fast.
I would use a 1/0 like Kenny and Castaway have already mentioned. The single hooks were really popular a few years ago, until people realized they are expensive, don't last long and don't really help here on the upper coast.
got to disagree with TTU
I don't think there to expensive, most of mine have lasted for years and they do help.
my avatar is a tarpon caught on a mirrodine with single hooks. A week before close to the same area I hooked one with the same bait with treble hooks. After loosing one with treble I switched to single and landed one.
I also believe its easier to "pop" a bait off shell with single hooks and for me its easier to deal with a single hook when wading, especially in the surf.

Which brand do you use? I still like to use them for other things, just not trout fishing. I used gamakatsu live bait hooks with the ring and they would rust very fast.
Tarpon fishing is totally different than trout fishing, you can't compare the two. I fished for tarpon all the time when I lived in FL and would never dream of using trebles.
