So I hear from the guys on GALVESTON SALTWATER FISHING that TPWD is meeting in Dickinson tonight to drop the bag limit on Trout to 5 and to eliminate flounder fishing on the Galveston bay complex. Anyone one else hear about this? I wouldn't mind the trout bag limit but as far as the flounder that seems to be a little overboard.

Believe they met last night.
Haven't heard any details. Could care less about chesting any size Redfish. Personally believe they should length slot Flounder with a lower min and nothing above 20". 2 max And do the same with Specs but a 5 count limit year round.
BUT, if the fish come back then ease up on the size/limit.

I went to the scoping meeting in Dickinson last night. They took a show of hands to keep limits as they are and the tally was 148 for keeping things as they are and 2 for the five fish limit. Enough said.

Shrimpers in the bay systems are the major culprit IMHO. They have done a lot of damage to some of the bays.

There are very few bay shrimpers left, and they're bait shrimpers. The licenses were bought and the boats sawed up and hauled to the dump.

Public Meetings Set for Fisheries Regulations


AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Coastal Fisheries Division will host seven public scoping meetings Jan. 7-Jan. 9 in several communities to discuss potential changes to Texas saltwater fishing regulations.


At these meetings, TPWD will be scoping several items for the upcoming 2014 statewide hunting and fishing proclamation process. The department is considering changes to the current flounder and spotted seatrout regulations to improve overall numbers in these fisheries. The option of applying a sunset date to potential regulation changes also may be considered by TPWD. (An FAQ on these issues may be viewed at http://tpwd.texas.gov/newsmedia/rele...g_coastal_faq/.)


All interested parties are encouraged to attend any of the meetings listed below, learn about the proposals, and provide comments. Those unable to attend one of meetings may provide comments online via the TPWD public comment web page http://tpwd.texas.gov/business/feedb..._coastal.phtml , which provides brief summaries of the proposals, or by email to SWFishComments@tpwd.texas.gov.


After these meetings, department staff will present recommendations to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its Jan. 22-23 meeting. Based on the commission’s feedback, TPWD staff will hold a series of formal statewide public hearings if any regulatory proposals are advanced. Hearings for all fishery- and wildlife-related proposals would be held after the January meeting and before the March 26-27 commission meeting. Final decisions about proposed regulations will be made by the commission at that meeting.

lowering the trout daily limit would be a disaster. Just like the Snapper limits killed a lot of offshore guides, theres a lot of people that pay $600 for a guide that would quit going for just 5. Ive never paid for a guide, but that's the way those guys make their living. I personally believe that as stated above, ANYTHING our "Government" takes "temporarily" we will never see again. If we continue getting regulated to death we are all going to look up one day with recreational fishing illegal, wondering what the hell happened. If you just HAD to make some cuts, I know for a fact that croaker w/ a hook hanging out of its rear end is responsible for dump truck loads of trout being taken from early summer to October. A good bit of the undersize fish that people release will never make it after a pair of needlenose have been shoved down their throats and a Albright hook torn out of their gills. These are just my thoughts, there are a heck of a lot more smarter folks on here than me, but I do know that Government Regulation and Liberalism is cutting a wide path to our front door. The pisser is that in a lot of cases the guys making decisions about our lives and lifestyle don't participate in it, let alone understand it. Have a blessed day guys

No regulations, no fish is the way I see it. Good article in this AM's Chronicle. I am all for lower limits and tighter slot sizes.
5 trout is plenty and 2 flounder year round is fine by me. Redfish I could care less about for table fare. I've been out more times with less than limit than I ever have catching a limit and keeping them.
Digital pictures and memories is best way to fish. The guides will adjust and so will most sportsmen.
My thoughts are always my own and for sure I'm more wrong than right. Just want my grandkids kids to know what its like to catch any fish and enjoy the outdoors like I have.
