Advice as to water to fish

Planning to go out from Thompson's Wednesday the 11th for the day. To maximize my chances I would appreciate advice on things like water depth(deep reefs), mud flats, channels, any thing to get headed in the right direction. Gonna be COLD but my fishing partner and son is moving and may be our last outing for a while :-(

Some years back a friend took me to jacks pocket. There are some telephone poles on the left. We caught a couple there. Went around the bend to the right, then to the left. We drifted and there were some drop offs. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.

Never fished there but I would think like anywhere this time of year find a drop off or near reef ledges.

Jacks pocket is way back in the NE cornor of Trinity . The warm water discharge is a winter fishing haunt , north shore of Trinity . Check out the bays north of Thompsons ... Scott , Burnett . Look at your hook n line map and google earth . I've only fished the area a few times . Those bays would have n and ne protection plus are close to ship channel deep water .

If weather permits, run out of Thompson's and head to the Red Fish rig. Start fishing close in and if no bites, work your way out

Deep water and usually good catching this time if year.

Thanks guys. I have done well in Burnetts previously, just not sure with the cold temps if it is deep enough. I will look at Red Fish. The HLP outlet is opposite from Burnetts so I guess we'll have to decide. Will poke around and report. All the Best

The HLP warm water discharge I'm talking about is not near Burnett Bay . It's on the north shoreline of Trinity Bay . From Thompson bait camp you motor south , round the point taking a left into Trinity Bay and run the shoreline heading east . It's about halfway to Jacks Pocket . It can be fished from boat or waded . You can see the large containment lake on google earth .

Right, I meant the opposite direction from Thompson's so unless I want to run all day I need to decide north or south. Maybe try Dows on the way to HLP, if nothing then decide. Gonna be pretty cool...

Gotcha . And I forget that most guys don't fish all day like me which gives me more time to motor around .

REPORT: Caught 3 keeper trout, 17, 19, a fat 23" and a top of the slot red. All were caught along the north shore of Alexander Island on the out-going tide on white/chartreuse tail gulp in about 3.5 feet of water fished just off the bottom. Lots of hang ups, but what can ya do?
