u can stomp around in those things all you want, don't mean a big one wont poke you in the knee or thigh. mind over matter for me I guess.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

I've had my ray guard boots for 4 years. I don't walk in very much shell. They are wearing out, so I bought some reef boots and leg guards. Before I bought my first boots, hodgman(spelling) boots, I read it was better to wear protective gear than spend money for doctor or hospital. As said before, shuffle your feet and don't walk backwards. I see people out there walking pretty fast. That's why I take my time walking. Better safe than sorry. Lord Bless.

The reef boots and Crackshots aren't heavy, and maybe you've never been popped by a ray.

Im not bein ugly, but dude just spend the $25.00! Your gonna feel pretty crappy looking down at the contraption you've strapped to your legs with a 4 inch barb hanging out of your Achilles Tendon. Im not saying they are the best by any stretch, but realistically how much cheaper would it be to try and assemble some out of quality parts? Are they gonna be comfy? I personally only wear mine around The Geotubes, Sportsman, etc. I just got Simms OceanTek's , and they are pretty solid(they better be for $200!) I tell ya IMHO even if it means waiting and saving up, my time on the water is precious and there is no substitute for quality gear. Period.

True, but you probably have about the same chance as being hit by a meteor! Once you get hit you'll change your mind I bet. But then I did surf and wade fish for 40+ years before i got popped.....in the surf!

Shuffle and walk slow....and I've never had a problem. As I get older and less athletic/sure footed I may have to get some but so far so good...always go barefoot in the surf, so I can feel what I'm walking on...tread lightly my friend...

Apparently I have now gotten old enough that worrying about getting hit was starting to affect the enjoyment of a good wade. I bought a pair of guards this year. I probably also have low T.

It's funny how age affects a man's bravado. I'd rather attribute it to wisdom than getting soft and less daring.

I don't think age has much to do with it. About 15 years ago I was wade fishing with a friend from work..He was from Kansas and new to wading. We got out of the Jon boat in knee deep water and when he took the first step a BIG ray nailed him in the instep. He almost immediately went into shock. I got him back in the boat and poured exhaust water on his foot on the way it. I have NEVER seen anyone in such pain. The way I see it, some people wear helmets to ride motorcycles and some don't. Some wear stingray guards and some don't.

And good analogy ..Go into Ben Taub on a weekend night and look at those that didnt wear helmets.
