Tips for Sportsman's?

Unless someone knows of a better place, think I'll focus this winter on the area off Sportsman's Road. Other than reeds and their artificial barrier reefs, anyone know of structure there? Grass or potholes or dropoffs? There's a reef straight out (Confederate?) but I'm wary to try to reach it the first time except at high tide.

You can't walk to confederate except maybe once or twice a winter on a REALLY low tide...I knew a guy who used to wade in a wet suit and he would do it on warmer days....that place is loaded with shell, and holes/guts within the shell...there's lot of little reefs...I used to walk in there 2 or 3 times a week. Just go to the end of the road and work your way west...there's a ridge between to 2 islands that you can make it out to the 2nd island on unless the water is really high, pay attention on a hard inbound tide I got trapped out there by the rising water at night and had to get wet to get in...I've also been fogged in where you can't see 50 yards, pack a good light...lots of boats in that area in the winter...C2000 is my go to bait there...I've also done good on FBs, Devils and Originals...soft plastics work too...get out and wade it...and go check it out after a hard norther when all the water is out of the bay, fishing will probably suck but you will get a good idea of the structure, especially guts. You get a lot of right to left/ left to right hard current there if you are facing N...classic throw up current spot and let your suspending bait drift down current work it slow just enough to not get hung up on the shell when its cold and you can catch some pigs...if you have a yak you can go out and work the main reef, but there areplenty of good areas for walk in waders there...good luck

That's good advice . Just take it slow and careful . You will learn the area with your feet . Nothing beats stomping around a lot to learn an area .

I ended up using a rapala pink suspending lure because my soft plastics kept getting hung on the shell. I caught a majority of my fish on a cold day drifting in a kayak about twenty yards off the shore. Don't catch them all since I may be going back there soon. Plugger will probably fish it out before we get there anyway……………And don't tell anyone else if you catch some there, especially Plugger

that reef sees more anglers than any other place in gbay besides kemah. That place is full of kooks, have fun fighting off the masses, best tip for that place is dont go.
