  • Chocolate Bayou via canoe

I'm going to take my oldest out Sunday morning for a bit of fishing and I was hoping to get some advice about Chocolate Bayou around lutes. I typically go over to Highland Bayou but I live so close to Chocolate I was thinking of saving some gas. I've been down from 2004 a few times but never headed up stream. Due to the fact I'm a broke fool we'll be fishing out of the mighty blue canoe so range is a concern, plus we only get a few hours to fish before canoe cramps set in. Looking at google earth it's hard to see much going on up by lutes. It looks like there's some distance to cover before any interesting marshy areas. Any wisdom y'all could share would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Wonderful to be taking young'uns out!!
My suggestion is put in at Lutes and talk with Barb or Cody on launching and they will also watch your vehicle. They have baits, ice, etc. Good people.
I've got time this afternoon so I'll send you a PM with Google Earth Coordinates up the Bayou and also down if you want them.
Up the Bayou is strange and fun and the waters may be fresh/salty/or combination. I've caught reds, trout ,flounder and also Bass Crappie, Catfish and gars all in the same area. Depends on time of year, tides, and rainfall.
    Good luck and tite lines!

Thanks a couple spots would be nice to give me an idea what to look for. I like exploring new areas so long as it doesn't mean falling asleep on the trolling motor to get there. Should be good times, new stepson has never fished in salt water. Hopefully something with some shoulders happens along to pull some drag for him.
