  • Is there a small boat launch, other than Louie's on Highland bayou?

Considering exploring the bayou North from Louie's. I thought I read that there was one on one of the upper city parks. Louie's would be OK, but I'd rather find one up there if it exists. My gheenoe needs a small, but real, ramp. Thanks. Rich.

The only other boat launch is located at Mahan City Park off of Lake Rd and Woodland St. in LaMarque. If you are traveling down 45 toward LaMarque, exit 519 and turn underneath the overpass onto Lake Rd., stay on Lake Rd (road will veer to the left, don't go right) and will come to Woodland St. after the Levee. Follow down to Mahan Park which will be on your left side and go to the back where you'll run into the boat ramp. If you stay to the left of the tennis courts, the road will take you directly to it.

When I was little, my Grandfather and I would slay the specks and reds to the right of the boat ramp back in the late 50's and early 60's. Lots have changed since then!

Thanks, I wish I had delayed my morning trip and gone here.

I went to Christmas bay and the wind blew me out. Hiding up the creek would probably have been better. Might have caught the same number of fish, though......NONE! Ha Ha regards, Rich

Rich, one of these days we'll get you checking the right forecasts before you make the drive. The launch at Mahan is good just bear in mind that you will be stuck up the creek so to speak. There is a very low RR bridge, much too low to get under, if you explore downstream toward Louis beyond 2 miles or so.

The for the RR bridg warning. I didn't know about that. Rich

Dont no how your boat runs but you can put in the Diversionary Canal on 2nd st in Hitchcock! You can then run down the canal make the left at gar hole and run into the marsh from there! depends on if your rowin or motorin!

Thanks, that was one of the plans that I had. I have a Gheenoe so it runs very shallow, but I won't be crossing any bays in it at this time. regards, Rich

There are no fish, edible or otherwise, within 2.75 nautical miles in any direction of Louis' Bait Camp.

                        I will concur wholeheartedly.

There are NO Flounder nor Redfish to be had anywhere near where Louis' Bait Camp is located.
There are NO Flounder stacking up on either side of the aforementioned RR bridge as well as upstream by the curve.
There are NO Reds or Trout to be found in the several holes that are back in Pierce Marsh you hit the cuts to get to.
There are NO Tailing Reds to be found in the grass between the RR tracks and Moses Lake.
There aren't any Flounder that are worth keeping to be found anywhere near Harbourwalk.
There are never any big Trout to be found in the "Gar Hole" or in the run to it.

And lastly, there are plenty of "Potlickers" that have thought I was crazy headed into Pierce with my 22ft Skeeter when they don't know how to get back to the "getting spots" in a flatbottom and have raised the single finger salute as I blasted by them as they blocked the entrance fishing with old frozen dead shrimp....
