  • Croaker vs. Mullet in the surf?

I'm seeing allot of you using mullet instead of croaker in the surf lately. Is mullet more effective? I've always just used croaker when available.

croaker are like crack for trout in the summer. mullet doing the trick for everything right now!
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Tricking a fish to eat plastic....now that's angling ! Artificials are just more fun and i don't have to hassle with live bait . You're missing out not having shelves and boxes of brilliantly colored , different sized , expensive plastic baits to fondle and oou - aah over . You get to be an artificial crackhead junkie . Besides , i'd have to drop " plugger " for " soaker " .

Fishing is fishing. I've done it all my life with every type of bait. Personally I like to trick the fish into eating what I want it to take. I caught my first trout on a gold spoon 30 years ago and have never looked back. I own no terminal tackle and have no intentions of purchasing any. It's like hunting with a spear. Give the prey a sporting chance.

LOL, I didn't hear him asking any questions about arties, just about mullet vs. croaker. Try to resist the urge to spout off elitest comments. I think this one has been beat to death everywhere.

They both work good. At the price of croakers, I would just net mullet.

Thanks guys. I hit he surf yesterday at SS. I actually fish almost exclusively arties and yes, if FTU had an awards program, I'd have a brand new Shimano Core every year. I got in the water yesterday at 6:30. Only fish of the day was a nice 27.5 in. tournament red on speckled trout SS Jr.. I call that bait " the closer" next to the bone SS Jr.

Anyway, after I'm done, I take pictures of it out of the cooler next to my truck, load up, text the wife I'm on my way and to get the fixings for red fish on the half shell (Her favorite). I head to Academy to pick up my new Triton Deluxe grill they put together. When I get to he Academy in Sugar Land, and as I'm unloading the bed to make room for the grill, the Academy guy ask, "Are you ok?" I said, "S&$@, I just realized I left something at the beach.

Yep, if any of you happened to run by an igloo cooler with a nice red on ice, just inside Access Rd. 5 yesterday, enjoy the redfish! I'll send pics of him if I can figure out how to work this tapa talk I downloaded.

BTW, after the topwater bite, nothing hit the Mullies I bought.
