  • Fly Fishing Galveston West Bay

Hey all. I am new to this forum, I am from Utah and will be in Galveston in February 24-28th for meetings at American National Insurance Co which is located on the East end of the island. I am looking to get out and enjoy a day of fly fishing before I have to sit in meetings all week Yippee Anyways I am looking to do a little DIY fly fishing for the Reds or Trout in the bay. I will obviously be wading from shore. Can anybody help me know where is best to go to?

We have a few guides in here that specialize in chasing reds, poling fly guys around the flats. I would seriously think about setting that up...you will have the success and also they will know where to place you as you never know how the weather will be...

x2! I'd definitely hire a guide if I only had one day to fish. It'll make a huge difference.

Not much for shallow water that time of year in our area. My advice would be to take an extra day and go fish out of new orleans with uptown anglers.

Winter afternoon shallow fishing ....on sunny days trout , reds follow bait to shallow , warmer water , usually mud , on an incoming tide after being exposed to sunlight at low tide . If possible , a guide is always more efficient for getting results .

Fly fishing in the West Bay in February is a daunting and near impossible prospect (at least for me it is). I strongly suggest you contact Jared at Angler's Edge in Houston or Shallowist on this site. They are the only two I know of who can help you find fish with a fly rod in that time frame. There are probably others, but I just don't know them. I usually start fly fishing the west bay marshes for redfish in late April and early May. Even then I can't predict success until early June. If you are determined to go fly fishing by yourself in the West Bay without a boat, kayak, or guide in February I strongly believe you are setting yourself up for failure or disappointment. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

You can catch plenty of reds on fly in C lake or Greens during that time of year.

It can be tough on windy days, but the fish are definately there

You can also find them in jones lake, and along the shell in the intercoastal

Last year the week before the fishing show, we were on a school of a over 500 redfish in Greens.. They are there, you just have to look in the correct place
