Last weekend Bryan Treadway reports his tournament at Lutes Marine saw 22 flounder donated to Sea Center Texas to aid with spawning production for the Galveston Bay complex.
"Five of those fish were between 19 and 19 7/8 inches. Plus we contributed two trout and a gray snapper which we were really surprised to see," Treadway said.
Angler James Robertson caught the big flounder of the event, a 19 7/16-incher that earns him a replica courtesy of Flounder Revolution.
Thanks to Bryan for his efforts in working on behalf of flounder and flounder anglers in the Galveston Bay complex and to all of the anglers who contributed fish.
Don't forget the Sabine Lake Flounder Roundup is coming this weekend. This event will seek live donations of flounder to aid TPWD's stocking program and produce baby flounder to be stocked back into Sabine Lake. Anglers can stop by and donate live flounder next to Sharky’s Grill at 540 South Levee Road on Pleasure Island from around from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
We need as many people as possible to fish on behalf of flounder at this event. It is crucial to help with the stocking program, which has already helped put fish back into Sabine Lake. All fish brought in to the event need to be legal-sized. Keeping flounder alive during the fall is easy. If you have a live well, simply keep the water circulating and if you are fishing from the bank, an ice chest works great. Simply put in plenty of water, use an aerator or oxygen bottle if you have one and change out water as much as possible.
I will be personally donating a replica of their catch to the angler who brings in the largest flounder through my Flounder Revolution program. Southeast Texas anglers have led the way in flounder conservation and we have an opportunity here to take it to the next level.
