Coast Guard suspends search for missing fishermen

    By Yang Wang | October 6, 2013 | Updated: October 6, 2013 8:58pm

Coast Guard crews have suspended the search for two fishermen reported missing near the mouth of Brazos River in Freeport, officials said Sunday.
A bystander called 911 about 2:30 p.m. Saturday when he saw two wade fishermen go underwater, an agency spokesman said Sunday. The agency searched by boat and helicopter. Two volunteer search groups, Gulf Coast Rescue Squad and Texas Equusearch, also helped.
The fishermen are presumed drowned, Texas Equusearch officials said Sunday. They identified the two as Sam Lavan, 40, and Tria Nguyen, 48. The group plans to resume searching for the two on Monday.
In other incidents, the Coast Guard helped rescued four people Sunday from a sinking boat near Sea Wolf Park in Galveston. They waved down a fisherman, who called 911. As the rescue crew arrived, one of the four boaters had jumped out of the sinking boat and swam to a buoy. A helicopter located the man and rescued him.
About 5:47 p.m. Saturday, the Coast Guard helped five people whose boat was disabled near Sabine jetties. A Coast Guard boat crew got to them before they hit the jetties, then towed them to safety at the Sabine public boat ramp.

Geez, and Saturday was smooth waters.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

MOB is a dangerous place even when its calm, currents there get strong and water drops off deep quick… I hate to hear these stories… seems they are happening all to often recently though…

Prayers sent for their families. Most dangerous place I know of in these parts. Can be great fishing, but a pfd is a must in that area.

Jerry, the surf over here was really bad and the rip currents were strong. Not sure where they were, but if they were wading in the surf it was not smooth at all.

it was breaking all the way out at the end of the surfside jetties!
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

People don't know , evidently by the ongoing drownings , how dangerous the surf can be , especially around passes . Even if you float like a cork one should have a PFD . I wear a Wade-Aide wade belt which will float my fat self . I love it. Back support too . It's like stingray guards . You may not get hit for years , but if you eventually do , it's worth wearing them all that time for that one incident . Same with a PFD .
