You bet, this is something we all should be passionate about. We don't want to loose beach access. Money talks, and talks loudly. I guess Galveston wanted those tax revenues on the west end enough to close the beach to vehicular traffic to appease the developers. I don't know how they got around the open beach act. Some of you probably know-enlighten me. We need to be aware of these things and do our part to protect what we have ,or we will loose our beach access rights. Anyone know what's the bill/proposition is about ?

What has hapened all up and down the west end is against Tx law.
How was this allowed to happen? Money-you bet and maybe some corrupted officials will do time over this someday.
The west end had a important natural function and beauty like PINs thats now gone.
The west end should become a state park to preserve what little is left.

I do know they are talking about banning all golf carts on the streets of Galveston, which I do not agree with. Yes, I can see it on the major highway (3005), but in the subdivisions? I got one, so I am not driving the truck all the time (trying my part to be green). I like to drive around and relax on the cart during the weekend, but I guess a few jerk offs are ruining it because they allow their 10 year to drive and hit something or you have to drunks causing problems. Oh well, let them pass it and I would like to see how they are going to have time to enforce. I will keep driving my cart regardless.

Pointe West (Centex) paid off the council-the idjits actually believed the bullsheet that they'd give "land" to the city/county so a park could be made-that freaking land was "wetlands" and could not be developed anyway-farging morons-and the GD council pushed it saying look we're getting free land-what a crock of sheet. If the city allows "access", then they can stop traffic under the guise of "safety" and the GLO approves the access plan. That is what happened to the whole West End-all due to revenue generation from taxes. Then Ike hit, values went into the toity so the gaddam council raised taxes to cover the "loss" of revenue based on property values. The only way to change the way the council acts is to vote each and every one of those MFr's out of office, stop paying OT to police/fire/and city personnel and hire a few more police and fire (the OT charged easily pays for more police and fire personnel - allowing OT allows tired, unawake and unalert folks to perform the job of two when two folks are really needed). Fire Leblanc, run Lyda out of town (or move her to Cuba the worthless POS she is with her silver spoon) and instigate a business run city that runs on a realistic budget instead of the old crony system of "what's in it for me ($$$$)?" attitude that exists with each and every city council member. Freaking glad I live in Jamaica Beach-at least we have a decent mayor that let us in after Ike-just way too many cops (5) for 300 homes-I would cut back on the police in Jamaica Beach. Ya better have a license plate and safety triangle on the golfcart-Wiley is after them and Barney at Jam Beach loves writing them tickets also.

It's a shame that Lyda didn't stay in Cuba on her "Hurricane Preparedness Mission" or that the plane didn't get lost in the Bermuda Triangle.

Thanks, Robalo, for the insight. I figured it was some political and financial criminal activity, just didn't know the details. So, they can close off a beach to vehicular traffic sighting " safety " concerns , but have to provide those parking areas to walk over the dunes to the beach ? What about having to pay to access the south jetty area { AFFEL PARK ?} and such ? Does that beach area belong to the city and so they can charge for access ?

Apfel has been a charge beach since the early 80s. I used to fish a great little pocket at channel side of South Jetty and we'd get there early and didn't have to pay (the dang spot sanded in completely)-the payment charged is for the 'facilities" and cleaning up-with all the 'wonderful" events they have like rap bands and the "nice, upstanding folks" that attend and shoot their pistols, I'm surprised it aint shut down-another fine example of the city council bringing low-life scum to the beaches-you bet they spend a lot of money-they come with their coolers full of malt liquor and blast anti-society music and cop killer music and the GD council encourages it-freaking idiots-just like when they wanted "Kappa" weekend in Galveston-I got so mad the first year because I was stuck on 61st on Friday night for an hour while the future Obama voters were dancing around outside their cars in all 3 lanes and not even trying to move and not a cop in sight. A girl I know had her bike on her car bike rack and the scum took it off and rode off on it while she sat scared to death in her car. I managed to drive the grass and turn on Heards Lane and then loaded my guns when I got to the house. I was amazed when the next year the black city manager wanted them all back-sheeit, even Walmart closed due to all the shoplifting-really upstanding folks representing their colleges well. I just do not understand any councilman's logic wanting to encourage low-life scum to come on down instead of families-just doesn't make sense. How many low-life scum spend money while in Galveston (other than money on crack and money they steal from citizens)? Not many. What is the council thinking (and the freaking Parks Dept.)?
